Ballet

Ballet is the core of all dance training. It provides the discipline, posture and strength required throughout all styles of dance.  Ballet is the most popular of the school’s three main style focuses.

Tap Dance

Tap is a fantastic contrasting style of dance compared with the other two studies we provide.  Tap helps the students to move in the totally opposite way to ballet allowing them to learn to be versatile dancers in the future.

Theatre Jazz

Theatre Jazz is really fun to study, we work on the flexibility and strength aspects of dance also with an acro/gymnastics fusion.  We teach a wide variety of jazz styles such as lyrical, theatre, street and commercial.

Friedrich Nietzsche

“We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.”

The Cornell School of Dance was founded in 2007 by Emily Cornell-Brown.

It all started when we ran a workshop one Saturday back in April 2007, from this, we enrolled our first ever students, and the school started to slowly grow. Before we knew it, we had moved from one class in one church hall, to 15 classes across three churches.

With the school continuing to grow over the years, we made the leap to lease our own studio in 2013, making our dreams come true.

Some major renovations were undertaken, and in September 2014, we opened Studio Sixteen – the new home of the Cornell School of Dance.

We now teach over 200 children from all of North Leeds, including students from Horsforth, Adel, Cookridge, Ireland Wood, Headingley, Holt Park and West Park.

We love to teach children the magic of dance.

This video was from our Summer Stars 2010, where the entire Summer Stars cast learnt Imagine in sign language, as first seen on Glee. As well as looking amazing, what was truly stunning was that our Summer Stars learnt this in four days…as well as five other dances!

Summer Stars takes place every year in August, where we run a week long dance camp, with a finale showcase on stage in front of all the parents. We choose a different theme each year, with previous themes including the likes of ‘Rock!’, ‘Hollywood’, ‘Carnival’ and ‘Pop!’.
